Coahuila retrocede a ‘semáforo amarillo’

La pandemia no se ha terminado y el riesgo de contagiarnos y desarrollar síntomas graves de la enfermedad provocada por el coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 sigue presente. La mayor prueba de ello es que nuestra entidad ha retrocedido a “semáforo amarillo”.
Tal circunstancia ha ocurrido a pesar de que, de acuerdo con la información disponible, el 78 por ciento de la población de Coahuila se encuentra inmunizada en contra del patógeno.
No es, debe decirse con toda claridad, una noticia que deba sorprendernos. Los especialistas en el tema han advertido de forma permanente en el sentido de que, al menos por el momento, el hecho de estar vacunados no elimina el riesgo de contagio.
Se reduce, es cierto, el riesgo de desarrollar síntomas graves, así como la posibilidad de requerir hospitalización y de morir. El problema es que el riesgo solamente se reduce pero no desaparece, es decir, no es igual a cero y eso implica que existe.
Un dato, ofrecido por el secretario de Salud de Coahuila, Roberto Bernal, es necesario tener en cuenta sobre todo: el 40 por ciento de las personas que han requerido hospitalización en los últimos días, ya habían recibido dos dosis de la vacuna.
En otras palabras, aún contando con el esquema completo de vacunación, cuatro de cada 10 personas contagiadas deben ser internadas en un hospital para tratarles.
Se trata de una proporción altísima que pone de manifiesto la necesidad de que comience a programarse en nuestro país –como ya ocurre en los Estados Unidos y otros países– una dosis de refuerzo que permita incrementar el nivel de seguridad, sobre todo para quienes forman parte de las poblaciones de riesgo.
No se trata, desde luego, de generar alarma de forma innecesaria. Se trata, sí, de advertir que siendo la de hoy una situación mucho mejor a la que vivíamos hace apenas 10 meses, el riesgo generado por la pandemia no se ha disipado y por ello debemos mantener las medidas de seguridad.
Porque, aún cuando la pronosticada “cuarta ola” de contagios, claramente no será como las anteriores, “hay que seguir cuidándonos (y) no bajar la guardia”, como lo ha advertido el secretario de Salud de Coahuila, quien ha recomendado mantener “la sana distancia y el uso de cubrebocas”.
Todos estamos cansados y deseamos volver a “la normalidad” que conocimos hasta enero de 2020. Sin embargo, es preciso tener claro que eso no es posible todavía y que en la medida en la cual nos relajemos estaremos prolongando aún más el retorno a la situación que deseamos.
La pandemia no ha terminado y ese es el hecho puntual que debemos asumir. Coahuila ha regresado a semáforo amarillo y eso implica que el número de contagios ha crecido. Todos tenemos que contribuir para que volvamos a verde y que el saldo final de este proceso sea el menos lesivo posible.
