Debe Banxico mantener combate a inflación: Heath

Afirma que aún falta mucho, y desestima riesgos por crisis en algunos bancos estadounidenses
En medio de la turbulencia financiera por el colapso de algunos bancos en Estados Unidos, no hay que olvidar que todavía falta mucho para combatir la inflación, advirtió el subgobernador del Banco de México (Banxico), Jonathan Heath.

Agregó que debido a ello el instituto central no debería bajar la guardia. “Yo creo que debemos seguir firmes con la misma política monetaria, precisamente para seguir tratando de abatir la inflación”, manifestó.
Señaló que otro problema está más relacionado con la estabilidad financiera, y ese requiere medidas macroprudenciales.
Pero, para ese problema, no hay que utilizar la política monetaria como un instrumento macroprudencial, como se está usando para combatir la inflación. Si en un momento dado se requiere alguna medida macroprudencial, tiene que ser en adición, estableció.
“No se puede utilizar el mismo instrumento que estamos usando para la inflación”, ponderó.
Explicó que cada objetivo necesita un instrumento, por lo que no se debe usar uno para dos metas distintas. Además, señaló que el reto a seguir es encaminar la política monetaria para abatir la inflación, y terminar de hacerlo.
Al mismo tiempo, añadió Heath, hay que asegurarse de que se mantenga la estabilidad financiera. En caso de ser necesario, entonces aplicar políticas macroprudenciales, apuntó el subgobernador.
Puntualizó que lo que sucedió con los bancos de Estados Unidos fue un mal manejo de una institución que no supo lidiar con las altas tasas de interés. “El hecho de que iban a subir las tasas de interés estaba muy bien dibujado desde hace mucho tiempo, y si hay un banco que no sabe lidiar con ese tipo de problemas, quizá merece haber quebrado”, expresó.
