La trilogía de películas Buñuel-Soler

Este próximo sábado se cumplirán 40 años de la muerte de uno de los más grandes cineastas del siglo XX: Luis Buñuel, fallecido en la Ciudad de México el 29 de julio de 1983.
Exiliado de su natal España como muchos de sus compatriotas de la Guerra Civil, al no encontrar lazos ni coincidencias ideológicas ni artísticas con Hollywood a donde llega primero que a nuestro país, el maestro Buñuel inicia su prolífica etapa mexicana con “Gran Casino”, una olvidable comedia ranchera de 1946 a pesar de que contó con dos de las más grandes estrellas de la para entonces ya establecida ¨Época de Oro del Cine Mexicano”, Libertad Lamarque y Jorge Negrete, por lo que fue de manera oficial a finales de aquella misma década cuando inició con sus primeros grandes éxitos tanto de crítica como de taquilla con una trilogía de películas protagonizada por un primer actor saltillense quien, a su vez, se era ya uno de los más representativos de ese período excelso de nuestra industria fílmica.
Nos referimos a Fernando Soler, quien protagonizó en el año de 1949 la comedia “El gran calavera”, filme en el cual ya comienza a explorar su burla mordaz a la clase burguesa e instituciones como la religión con la historia de Ramiro, un hombre adinerado pero borracho cuya familia intenta darle una lección haciéndole creer que ha perdido su fortuna. Cuando el millonario se da cuenta del engaño decide dar otra lección a su familia, fingiendo que de verdad ha perdido su dinero y que todos ellos tienen que trabajar.
“El tema recuerda en algo al de ´Susana´’, película que filmaría más tarde: un personaje en contraste violento con quienes lo rodean lo desenmascara. Aquí no es un extraño el que siembra la discordia sino el propio jefe de la casa (...) A partir de un guión ingenioso, Buñuel no hace sino esbozar lo que hubiera podido tratar, en particular, en una de las pocas buenas escenas del filme donde Ramiro ebrio insulta a sus invitados, exige a las mujeres que se rasuren y corre a todos de su casa. Con un poco más de libertad, algo parecido daría años más tarde ´El ángel exterminador´” (Michel Ciment, “Les inedits de Luis Buñuel”, en Postif, París, mayo de 1966).
Del mismo año de su obra maestra “Los olvidados” (1950) es precisamente “Susana”, donde formando mancuerna con la actriz argentina Rosita Quintana y Víctor Manuel Mendoza, Fernando Soler interpreta a un hacendado que da cobijo a una joven aparentemente desamparada sin saber que es prófuga de una cárcel y lo provoca tanto a él como a su hijo y al caporal (Mendoza) lo cual desquicia su vida familiar. Sobre esta, el también guionista Tomás Pérez Turrent escribió: “La película es una buena muestra de cómo, llevando una situación convencional y melodramática hasta sus últimas consecuencias, se llega al absurdo; de cómo, aceptando los modos dominantes del cine, se les puede invertir” (“Buñuel ante el cine mexicano”, en Revista de la Universidad, México, junio de 1972).
De 1951 es el cierre de trilogía Buñuel-Soler con el melodrama “La hija del engaño” en el cual, después de descubrir que su esposa María lo está engañando, Quintín (Soler) la echa de la casa, y como venganza la esposa le confiesa que su hija Martha no lo es. “En esta increíble ensalada comercial, Luis Buñuel ha encontrado sin embargo la manera de condimentarla con ingredientes que ignoro si vienen de la pieza original de Carlos Arniches o si son inventados por él, pero de todas maneras tienen como función desmentir el relato, empujar las situaciones a tales extremos que se vuelven simplemente absurdas”.
