Willie Nelson, Gordon Lightfoot y Aerosmith
La no menos prolífica trayectoria de Nelson en la música country lo llevó inevitablemente en un momento de su carrera a incursionar,
Abril terminó con el festejo a todo lo alto del cumpleaños 90 del cantante y compositor texano Willie Nelson el sábado 29 de abril en el legendario escenario del Hollywood Bowl de Los Angeles, California.
Esta celebración se adelantó unos días al anuncio a mediados de la semana de los artistas de la música elegidos para su inducción en el Salón de la Fama del Rock and Roll 2023, que teniendo como antecedente la controvertida inducción de la no menos reconocida cantante de música country Dolly Parton, argumentando ella misma que no se considerba con credenciales suficientes para ser considerada “rockera”, no fue sorpresa encabezara su amigo y colega Willie Nelson al lado de exponentes de géneros diversos como Missy Elliot, Sheryl Crow, el creador del memorable programa “Soul Train”, Don Cornelius, el fallecido George Michael, The Spinners, Rage Against the Machine, DJ Cool Herc, Link Wray, Al Kooper y el por largo tiempo compositor y amigo de Elton John, Bernie Taulpin.
La no menos prolífica trayectoria de Nelson en la música country lo llevó inevitablemente en un momento de su carrera a incursionar, no solo compositor, sino como actor de cine siendo nominado al Oscar a la Mejor Canción de 1980 por su tema “On the Road Again” de la película “Honesuckle Road”, dirigida por Jerry Shatzberg protagonizó al lado de Kris Kristofferson “Songwriter”, de Alan Rudolph, filme por el que ahora Kristofferson fue nominado al Oscar a la Mejor Canción y ese mismo año estuvo en los primeros lugares de popularidad al lado del cantante español Julio Iglesias con el tema “To all the girls we loved before”, siendo en 1985 parte también de un tema en conjunto realizado por el conjunto USA for Africa por el tema de ayuda humanitaria “We Are the World”, entre muchos otros más.
Tristemente, mayo inició con la noticia por la que el Primer Ministro canadiense Justin Trudeau denominó al día primero como de “duelo nacional” por la muerte a los 84 años de otra leyenda de la música country pero de aquel país, Gordon Lightfoot, a los 84 años de edad, ya que es considerado como el más grande compositor de Canadá y cuyos temas han sido grabado por algunos de los más famosos cantantes del mundo. Es así como a Lightfoot se le atribuye el crédito de haber ayudado a definir el sonido del folk-pop de las décadas de los 60 y 70.
Otros compatriotas suyos como el también cantante y compositor Neil Young se manifestaron a través de las redes sociales en relación al deceso de Lightfoot al declarar que había hablado con él hace un par de semanas y lo escuchó contento a pesar de haber tenido que cancelar algunas fechas y estarlas reorganizando. “Gordon era un gran artista canadiense. Compositor sin paralelo, sus melodías y sus palabras fueron inspiración para todos los escritores que escuchaban su música, la cual va a seguir con vida a través de las generaciones”, agregó Young quien grabó covers de dos temas de los más conocidos de Lightfoot, “Early Morning Train” y “If You Could Read My Mind” para su álbum de covers del 2014 “A Letter Home”. Billu Joel, por su parte, se quitó el sombrero al interpretar “If You Could Read My Mind”.
Para terminar, en notas más agradables, el lunes pasado se anunció que la igualmente legendaria banda de rock norteamericano Aerosmith se estaba preparando para la que va a ser su última gira titulada “Peace Out”, y aunque es exclusiva para la Unión Americana será el 1 de noviembre cuando tendrá la fecha más cercana en el AT & T Center de San Antonio, Texas. Hoy inicia la venta de boletos para que se pongan truchas quienes sean fanáticos y puedan acceder a esta cita.
