Un tributo a Bird

Charles Christopher Parker, mejor conocido como Charlie Parker o Bird, fue recordado el sábado 7 de octubre por la noche en Ojo de Venado, espacio localizado en el corazón del centro histórico. Allí se llevó a cabo un tributo a este saxofonista y compositor, luminaria del bebop. La llamada abierta a quien tuviera el deseo de subirse al escenario, dio lugar a una concentración atípica de músicos que acudieron al jam session organizado por el saxofonista Evan Hernández.
“Puedes traer tu instrumento, entrada libre”, decía la publicación en redes y el resultado fue un jam sin precedentes en la ciudad, que mezclaba formaciones académicas y líricas en los músicos que acudieron al llamado para traer el espíritu aéreo del nacido en Kansas City.
Así quienes asistieron, tuvieron la fortuna de escuchar solos de personalidades coahuilenses o avecindadas aquí, y también de quienes con talento se abren paso.
El llamado fue atendido. En silencio, los músicos entraban a la noche en sus gabardinas o sacos, con sus instrumentos bien resguardados, y al subir al escenario, abrían las fundas solo cuando tomaban su sitio en el jam, esa fue su mejor manera de conversar entre ellos y mostrar a otros el resultado.
Fueron llegando de a poco y florecieron en un escenario con cielo pródigo en agua suspendida, ese fue el techo que les dio soporte y permitió que los asistentes escucharan las ejecuciones que resplandecían, como el caso del maestro Manuel Zogbi al violín, quien encendió la noche con su magistral y apasionada intervención. O del fino acabado del trombón de Arnaud Druart.
La banda que dio soporte al jam estuvo conformada por Evan Hernández en el sax alto -quien con sus intervenciones honró el espíritu lúdico de Parker- , Lolo Ramos al piano, Héctor “Pollito” Alarcón en el bajo y Oswaldo Cerna en la batería.
Al jam se sumaron, en el orden de intervención, Maximiliano Díaz en el sax tenor, David González en la guitarra, Eddy Reyes en el bajo, Noel Cortés en el sax alto, Addí Hernández en el trombón, Arnaud Druart también en el trombón, Iván Herrera en la trompeta, Manuel Zogbi en el violín y Héctor Zárate en la guitarra.
En el sencillo escenario, con el frío nocturno se ampliaban las conversaciones de metales y percusiones, las miradas y las charlas. El espíritu del jazz se hizo presente. Fue una noche de buena música, que al decir de los organizadores, se va a repetir cada mes en este espacio. Esperemos que sigan atendiendo al llamado y pueda convertirse en una conversación musical que sea tradición en Ojo de Venado. Este tipo de intervenciones, con frescura y fraternidad, es algo que hace falta en la ciudad. Fue algo que no se había visto en número y diversidad, como lo dijera el mismo músico Héctor Zárate.
La palabra jazz se registró por primera vez, recientemente en la historia del lenguaje, apareció publicada el 6 de marzo de 1913, en un boletín de la ciudad de San Francisco, California. Hay varias aproximaciones que sugieren el origen de esta palabra que suena a serpiente y agua que sale de entre los dientes: que se deriva de un músico llamado Jasper, que proviene del africano jaiza y refiere al que seduce, o bien, que proviene de la jerga criolla jass que deriva en excitar en referencia al cóito. También se sugiere como relacionado al vocablo árabe fazib, que alude al sonido de tambores lejanos.
