Los que nacimos entre 1950 y 1970, o generación baby boomers, fuimos testigos de los inicios de la tecnología. Quién no recuerda esas televisiones de tubo blanco y negro que tenían reguladores que pesaban más de 10 kilos y que para poder ver la pantalla teníamos que esperar que se calentara hasta 5 ó 7 minutos. Muchas de ellas usaban antena de techo para poder agarrar la señal y si vivíamos al lado de un edificio era imposible verla con claridad porque no había recepción. Queríamos subir el volumen o cambiar de canal, teníamos que levantarnos de nuestro lugar para hacerlo. Y nuestro control remoto era: “Mamá, ya que te paraste, le puedes cambiar, por favor”.
A principios de 1970 llega el televisor a color a nuestros hogares y con ello el control remoto. Ahora no necesitábamos incomodarnos para subir o cambiar los canales, solamente con un clic lográbamos controlar la televisión. Nuestro mundo estaba en el control remoto y esto representó una de las primeras aportaciones de la Inteligencia Artificial (IA) en nuestras vidas. La IA nos trae una gran revolución en nuestras vidas y especialmente la automatización de muchas de nuestras actividades humanas, especialmente en los centros de trabajo. Claro que entre mayor automatización habrá mayor humanización. En otras palabras, la IA nos permitirá dejar a un lado actividades infrahumanas y focalizar nuestra atención en nosotros mismos y nuestra familia. En otras palabras, una de las metas más importantes es “hacer nuestra vida más fácil” para traernos mayor humanización a nuestras vidas.
La inteligencia artificial puede automatizar muchas de nuestras rutinas y estilos de vida produciendo un mayor bienestar físico, intelectual y emocional en nuestras vidas e hijos. Sin embargo, su mal uso puede ocasionar nuestra destrucción. La tecnología y la IA no es buena o mala en sí misma, sino cómo la utilizamos. El celular no es un mal invento, sino es cómo se utiliza. A muchos nos ha ayudado a tener una mejor comunicación, pero para otros ha provocado adicción y depresión, por ejemplo, entre los adolescentes.
Hace algunas semanas, uno de los amigos cumplió años y lo visitamos en forma virtual. Al cantarle Las Mañanitas se escuchó a uno de ellos decir: “Alexa, play Las Mañanitas”. Alexa es un asistente virtual que se activa usando la voz. Y no se escuchó. Otra vez, le dieron la orden y tampoco respondió. Fueron más de cinco intentos y cada vez hablaban más fuerte para que “Alexa” tocara la melodía, sin resultado. Hasta que fueron al estéreo y oprimieron manualmente para que pudiéramos cantarla. ¿No era más fácil oprimir el botón en el estéreo?
Ahora existen los primeros avances que con solamente pensar podemos enviar nuestras ondas cerebrales y activar dispositivos del hogar. Ya no necesitaremos hablar. Entiendo que la inteligencia artificial tiene varios propósitos, pero, ¿no nos hará más flojos su abuso? En el año 2008 se estrenó en México la película de Disney titulada: “Wall-E”, que nos demuestra las posibles consecuencias del mal uso de la inteligencia artificial. “Wall-E” es un pequeño robot que recogía basura y encuentra una pequeña planta entre los deshechos en la primera parte. Una de las grandes lecciones que nos enseña la película es al final donde aparecen los seres humanos con sobrepeso, sentados devorando comida y con una pantalla delante, sin mover un dedo, y que habían olvidado hasta caminar. “Wall-E” es una representación real del abuso de la tecnología y ahora de la IA, creando una humanidad obesa que es adicta al celular. Busquemos, papás, que la IA nos haga mejores personas y no peores. Es mejor caminar a la tienda de la esquina y no ir en carro, no perdamos la capacidad de barrer comprando un robot automatizado que lo haga o el manejo automático de los automóviles. La IA nos facilita la vida para darnos la oportunidad de ser mejores humanos y no más flojos.
