Adquiere Bacardí la marca Ilegal Mezcal, la líder en el mercado artesanal
La empresa de bebidas busca posicionarse en el segmento de destilados de agave
CDMX.- La empresa de bebidas alcohólicas Bacardi Ilimited concretó la adquisición de la marca Ilegal Mezcal, que también fue seguida por L Catterton, de acuerdo con el medio especializado Bloomberg. Esta transacción es consecuencia de la exitosa relación que estrechó Bacardí al asociarse con Ilegal Mezcal en 2015.
Aunque los términos financiero del arreglo no se dieron a conocer, reporte de Bloomberg apuntan a una cifra menor a los 200 millones de dólares, mientras el portal especializado Tequila Raiders señala que la operación asciende a los 130 mdd.

Esta compra permitirá a Bacardí posicionarse en el mercado premium de los destilados de agave, en el que también se considera el tequila. De acuerdo con proyecciones de la marca, esperan que esta categoría se posicione como la sexta categoría a nivel global al año 2027.
“Creemos que Ilegal tiene las credenciales para poseer y liderar la categoría de mezcal Súper premium a nivel global”, indicó en un comunicado Barry Kabalkin, vicepresidente de Bacardi Limited.
Este mercado contempla a marcas que tienen presencia a nivel global, como lo son Don Julio de Diageo y José Cuervo de Becle, mientras Bacardí tiene en su portafolio marcas como el Tequila Patrón que obtuvo en 2018 por una operación de 5.1 millones y las marcas Cazadores, Corzo y Camino Real.
De acuerdo con Bacardí Limited, la empresa privada internacional comprende más de 200 marcas y etiquetas, entre las más populares el ron Bacardí, el vodka Grey Goose, el wiskey Dewars, la ginebra Bombay Sapphire el vermut y los vinos espumosos Martini.

Según la ficha de la empresa, esta compañía cuenta actualmente con unos 9 mil empleados, dispone de instalaciones de producción en 10 países y vende sus marcas en más de 160 mercados.
Ilegal es una marca reconocida mundialmente por su estilo único y sus actividades ecológicamente responsables y sostenibles. En su producción trabajan con maestros mezcaleros de cuarta generación en Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca (México).
La marca está certificada como mezcal artesanal por el Consejo Regulador del Mezcal (CRM) al ser un producto totalmente natural que no utiliza colorantes, levaduras, aromas ni aditivos artificiales.
