BofA: México, oasis frente a otros países

CDMX.- “México es un oasis frente a otros países de América Latina (...) a casi todos los inversionistas les gusta” y “todos aman el peso”, resolvieron Carlos Capistrán y Christian González, economistas de Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofA), luego de dos semanas de reuniones con clientes de la institución financiera en Estados Unidos y Europa. La razón: es difícil encontrar una economía con grado de inversión y tasas reales de 4%, explicaron.
En el recuento de las conversaciones con inversionistas internacionales, los analistas de BofA consignan que una de las preguntas recurrentes que se les hizo fue: ¿a qué nivel está dispuesto Banco de México a llevar su tasa de referencia (actualmente en 7%)? Tras el alza de 75 puntos base (pb) realizada por la Reserva Federal y el tono del más reciente comunicado del organismo central mexicano, Capistrán y González no dudan en que llegue a 9.5%.
Esta previsión implica un alza respecto al estimado previo de la institución financiera, 9%, y se empata con lo calculado por Monex, Scotiabank, Goldman Sachs, Grupo Financiero Banorte y Credit Suisse en un sondeo realizado por LatinFocus. BofA estima que Banco de México aumente su tasa 75 pb en junio y agosto; 50 en septiembre; y 25 pb en noviembre y diciembre para no realizar cambios en todo 2023.
“No pudimos encontrar un inversionista al que no le gustara (el peso)”, pero “con un Banco de México agresivo, la inflación aún sorprendiendo al alza y la alta correlación con las tasas de Estados Unidos, prefieren esperar”, refieren Capistrán y González.
UNA MONEDA FUERTE
Agregan que otro de los cuestionamientos centrales entre los clientes de Estados Unidos y Europa fue si el presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador prefiere desacelerar el crecimiento económico sólo para mantener un peso relativamente fuerte. Los economistas de BofA respondieron que esto puede responder a que en México una moneda fuerte se correlaciona con una robusta aprobación presidencial, además de que se tiene un amplio mercado compartido en la frontera norte.
