Esta semana entre los estrenos de series en streaming encontramos versiones libres (y menores) de historias tanto de culto en la pantalla chica como en la grande lo mismo que gratas sorpresas en relatos originales:
‘PACTO DE SILENCIO’ (NETFLIX)
En la primera mitad de los años 80, en medio de la pelea por el rating entre seriales norteamericanos inspirados en las telenovelas vespertinas como “Dallas” y “Dinastía”, surgió una miniserie que bajo el título de “Lace” (1984) les dio su respectiva batalla protagonizada por una de las jóvenes actrices de moda por aquellos años, Phoebe Cates (de películas como “Picardías estudiantiles” y “Gremlins”) donde interpretaba a su vez a una joven actriz que reunía a tres mujeres compañeras de colegio para averiguar quién era su madre.
El miércoles de esta semana Netflix nos salió con una serie que en su inflado formato de 18 capítulos no es más que una mediocre telenovela titulada “Pacto de silencio” donde ahora es una influencer muy exitosa (Camila Valero) la que se aparece en su caso a cuatro mujeres compañeras también de colegio para encontrar entre ellas a su madre y vengarse de su progenitora. Una trama que funcionó tan bien en aquellos años a pesar de ser tan kitsch resulta ser una obra maestra en comparación con esta sobrevalorada propuesta que hasta es mucho de menor calidad que adaptaciones de telenovela emanadas de “Lace” como la venezolana “Cristal” (1985) o la mexicana “El privilegio de amar” (1998).
‘LA CAÍDA DE LA CASA DE USHER’ (NETFLIX)
En el año de 1960 el maestro del terror Roger Corman (hoy de 97 años de edad y recién galardonado el pasado Festival de Cine de Cannes por su larga trayectoria fílmica) estrenó su adaptación del legendario relato del género original de Edgar Allan Poe “La casa de Usher” en un espectacular formato de pantalla de Cinemascope y que protagonizada por quien se convertiría en su actor fetiche en otros tantos relatos del mismo autor, Vincent Price como el misterioso patriarca de la familia maldecida en una mansión.
Cuando Netflix anunció que Mike Flanagan (“Doctor Sueño”; “Misa de Medianoche”) iba a terminar su contrato con esta plataforma con una adaptación de “La casa de Usher”, a pesar de ser más irregular en su más corta trayectoria que Corman en una más larga, los amantes del género nos emocionamos pero de igual manera nos decepcionamos por el resultado que en formato de serie se estrenó el jueves pasado haciendo una muy dispersa fusión de la trama de “La casa ... “ con otros relatos del autor para perder su esencia y nos hizo añorar la mucho mejor lograda versión mexicana que hace 50 años hizo el cineasta Julián Soler en lo que en México conocimos como “Satanás de todos los horrores” (1974) y fue protagonizada por primeros actores como Enrique Rocha, Enrique Lizalde y Carlos López Moctezuma.
‘LECCIONES DE QUÍMICA’ (APPLE TV PLUS)
Con todo, a pesar de no tener nada que ver con historias de terror, en lo que esta plataforma soltó el último episodio de la más recomendable “Changelling”, estrenó el viernes esta delicia de serie producida y protagonizada por la ganadora del Oscar Brie Larson (“Room”) en el papel de una aspirante a científica a inicios de la década de los 50 en medio de la discriminación laboral por sexo y su tenacidad por salir adelante en medio de un ambiente, todavía más en aquellos años, dominado por hombres. Co-produce Susannah Grant (“Erin Brokovich”) y co-protagoniza Lewis Pullman, hijo de Bill (“Top Gun: Maverick”).
