Conmemoran Día Mundial Contra la Polio con caravana en Ramos Arizpe y Saltillo

La poliomelitis es una enfermedad altamente infecciosa que generalmente afecta a niños de menores de cinco años
Este sábado 24 de octubre se conmemoró el Día Mundial Contra la Polio, y miembros del Club Rotario de Saltillo y de Ramos Arizpe realizaron una caravana para concientizar a la población sobre la importancia de vacunar a los niños.
En el desfile participaron entre 40 y 50 vehículos, decorados con colores globos, osos de peluche y pancartas con mensajes alusivos al trabajo del Club Rotario Internacional, junto con organizaciones internacionales de salud, fundaciones, gobiernos e iniciativa privada, para erradicar la poliomelitis en casi todos los países del mundo.
También se sumaron agrupaciones de automovilistas, como Autos Clásicos de Saltillo, presidida por Eruviel Valdés, Las Foringas Truck Club Saltillo y Guelo’s Garage, de Pedro Quintanilla.
El desfile inició cerca de las 17:00 horas en la Plaza del Club Rotario en Ramos Arizpe, recorrió calles importantes del municipio y después se dirigió a Saltillo, donde la caravana avanzó por el bulevar Venustiano Carranza, la calle Victoria, Emilio Carranza y terminó en la Plaza de las Ciudades Hermanas, sobre el bulevar Francisco Coss.
La poliomelitis es una enfermedad altamente infecciosa que generalmente afecta a niños de menores de cinco años, ataca al sistema nervioso y en algunos casos produce parálisis.
Esta enfermedad no tiene cura, pero existe una vacuna segura y efectiva que el Club Rotario y sus aliados han empleado para vacunar a 2 mil 500 millones de niños en todo el mundo.
Actualmente solo hay dos países con casos de polio, Afganistán y Pakistán, por lo que las campañas de vacunación lograron reducir en 99.9 por ciento la incidencia de esta enfermedad desde 1988.
