Recibe David Chipperfield el Premio Pritzker 2023

El arquitecto dijo estar “muy abrumado por recibir este extraordinario honor y estar asociado con los ganadores anteriores”
El arquitecto británico David Chipperfield ha sido nombrado ganador del Premio Pritzker 2023 por su “obra transformadora”. El jurado destacó que Chipperfield ha logrado mantenerse alejado de las tendencias y comprometerse con una arquitectura de presencia cívica discreta durante sus más de 40 años de carrera.
Nacido en Londres en 1953, Chipperfield se graduó de la Kingston School of Art en 1976 y un año más tarde de la Architectural Association.
Antes de establecer su propio estudio, trabajó para arquitectos de renombre como Richard Rogers y Norman Foster. Actualmente, su despacho tiene oficinas en España, Milán, Berlín y Shanghái.

Sobre la condecoración, mencionó que tomará este premio como un estímulo para seguir dirigiendo su atención no solo a la esencia de la arquitectura y su significado, sino también a la contribución que pueden hacer los arquitectos para abordar los desafíos existenciales del cambio climático y la desigualdad social.
La ceremonia oficial para la entrega del Premio Pritzker será en mayo en Atenas. Entre los proyectos más significativos de Chipperfield se encuentran el Museo Lineal River and Rowing (1997), el Museo de Arte de Saint Louis Missouri (2013) y el Museo Jumex en la Ciudad de México en el mismo año.
El estudio de Chipperfield también se especializa en oficinas y viviendas, y actualmente está trabajando en la ampliación de tierra apisonada para el Museo Arqueológico Nacional de Atenas y la remodelación de los grandes almacenes Jenners en Edimburgo.
Además del Premio Pritzker 2023, Chipperfield ha recibido numerosos premios a lo largo de su carrera, incluyendo la Medalla de Oro Real de RIBA en 2010, el Premio Mies van der Rohe y el Premio Imperial de Arquitectura de la Asociación de Arte de Japón en 2013, y el nombramiento como miembro de la Orden de los Compañeros de Honor de la Orden del Imperio Británico en 2021.
